Dr. Kenan Celtik is a fellowship-trained reconstructive urologist practicing at the San Francisco location of the Crane Center, a recognized pioneer in transgender care and treatment both in the United States and internationally.
Dr. Celtik began his training with the Crane Center in 2019 and continued until completing his fellowship, after which he joined the practice full-time in September 2023.
His medical journey began with a surgical internship and urology residency at Houston Methodist Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Reconstructive, Prosthetics, and Gender-Affirming Genital Surgery at the renowned Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York. Dr. Celtik is trained in robotic surgery, a technique that offers patients a shorter recovery time, a less invasive procedure, and potentially more surgical options compared to traditional methods.
Dr. Celtik’s education, experience, and skill enable him to specifically address any urinary complications or conditions that may arise post-surgery. His kind, compassionate, and gentle nature fosters long-term, trusting relationships between patient and surgeon. Patient comfort and safety are his top priorities. He is supported by a highly experienced medical team and administrative staff, all of whom are available to assist in scheduling a consultation in any of the following areas to determine if they are the right fit for the patient:
Masculinizing Bottom Surgery:
- Metoidioplasty – the surgical procedure that creates a small penis using clitoral tissue. The surgery can include a simple release, or urethral lengthening, vaginectomy, scrotoplasty and testicular implants.
- Phalloplasty – the surgical procedure that creates a penis using tissue from the forearm or thigh. During this surgery, he is assisted by Dr. Charles Lee, board certified in microsurgery and plastic surgery with over 22 years of experience in the Bay area.
- Implants – the surgical procedure to place testicular prostheses in a scrotum or to place an device into a phallus to allow for erections.
- Urethroplasty – the surgical procedure to repair the urethra due to stricture or fistula.
Feminizing Bottom Surgery:
- Vaginoplasty – the surgical procedure to create a vulva and a full depth vaginal canal. He performs both Robotic Peritoneal Flap Vaginoplasty and Penile Inversion Vaginoplasty.
- Vulvoplasty aka Zero Depth Vaginoplasty – the surgical procedure for those who do not want a vaginal canal but would like a vulva.
- Orchiectomy – the surgical procedure to remove the testes. This is done during a vaginoplasty or may be done on its own as an outpatient procedure.
- Scrotectomy – the surgical procedure to remove the scrotal skin. This is done during a vaginoplasty or may be done on its own as an outpatient procedure.
The first step is to call the Crane Center practice for a consultation, where patients can speak directly with Dr. Celtik to discuss the most suitable procedure. The team will assist patients through the eligibility process, which includes physical and mental health assessments, and help address any insurance or payment concerns related to the procedure. Dr. Celtik is able to perform surgeries at many of the Bay Area’s hospitals and ASCs, and the center honors the patient’s right to choose their preferred location.
